Chris Brady Named to USMNT October Roster
Chris Brady is back with the U.S. Men's National Team.
The Chicago Fire's starting goalkeeper, who was Mauricio Pochettino's third-string goalkeeper at the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer, returns to the squad for the first time since that tournament and is one of four keepers summoned for this camp. The U.S. will face Ecuador and Australia in a pair of friendly matches.
This call-up serves as a reward for a run of good form by Brady. Despite playing behind an inconsistent back four for most of the year, Brady has performed well; Gregg Berhalter's switch to a back five in September has added additional stability, and Brady has benefited from that, too. The 21-year-old got his first back-to-back clean sheets of 2025 last week, shutting out Minnesota United and the Columbus Crew.

For this camp, Brady will be one of four goalkeepers. Matt Freese, the team's apparent #1 and Gold Cup starter, is of course one of them, as is Matt Turner, who returns after missing the September camp. Patrick Schulte also returns for the first time in months, despite being in one of the worst runs of form in his career and being benched in Columbus' last match for 39-year-old Evan Bush.
Nonetheless, it seems unlikely Brady will feature in this camp. In September, Freese played all 180 minutes, and for the June friendlies Brady was a part of, the Naperville native was an unused substitute for both. Turner is likely still ahead of him in the pecking order, even if he has fallen out of favor in recent months. It's still a good sign that Brady is at least in the direct race for the third goalkeeper spot on the World Cup roster, presuming that Freese and Turner are the top two.
Because the Fire do not have any games in this international window, Brady will not miss any MLS action for this camp (like how he missed six games for the Gold Cup). He will be available for this Saturday's home finale against Toronto FC, and then again for Decision Day against the New England Revolution. The Fire are looking to improve their playoff seeding after clinching a first postseason berth since 2017 with a 5-3 win over Inter Miami on Tuesday.
