In a rotated Fire lineup, Aceves started while the starting left wing-back, Miguel Navarro, was rested. The new arrival from Mexico showed a lot of quality against the conference’s best team in the league and proved to Miggy that he has solid competition in his position.
After playing a lot on the wing and as an advanced full-back in a back five so far this season, Aceves shone in that role. The Mexican passed at nearly 90 percent and did well to keep any Cincinnati attacks down his flank quiet.
Not only on the defensive side of the ball, but Aceves looked bright going forward and infused a lot of energy into the team’s attack from what was otherwise a Cincinnati-dominant performance. Although he was unable to set up a goal tonight for the Fire successfully, he made his quality of cross evident and will certainly be an important player for the Fire going forward.
