The Chicago Fire are hosting CF Montréal in an important game early in the MLS season today. Though the Fire looked solid in their first three games of 2024 against Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Columbus, they emerged from that difficult trio with just one point, losing twice. Now, they have an opportunity at Soldier Field to grab their first win of the season, albeit against a difficult Montréal team that is unbeaten this season and has had a strong start entirely on the road.

Who's available for the Fire?

Star Designated Players Xherdan Shaqiri and Hugo Cuypers are both expected to start for the Fire, with the latter still looking for his first MLS goal. Free agency acquisition Kellyn Acosta will also likely make his third straight start, having performed well in his first three games for the Fire. Homegrown stars Brian Gutiérrez and Chris Brady, despite disappointing omissions from the U.S. Olympic team camp this week, are also in line to start at the left wing and goalkeeper positions, respectively.

The Fire are close to full strength, with just one likely starter missing from the teamsheet. That is Andrew Gutman (upper leg), who is still out with injury but is getting closer to a comeback. Fede Navarro (upper leg) also misses out. DP Gastón Giménez is also fully available after coming off the bench last week.

Who's available for Montréal?

Fresh off of a stunning 3-2 win over Lionel Messi-less Inter Miami last week in Fort Lauderdale, Montréal will be looking to extend their good form with another victory in Chicago. New Uruguayan center forward signing Matías Cóccaro is the main player to watch, as he has had a dream start to life with the Québecqois club, but backup nine Josef Martínez is also someone to be wary of. Midfielder Mathieu Choinière has also continued his All-Star level form from last season, while Jonathan Sirois remains a formidable threat between the sticks.

L'Impact will definitely be without Mahala Opoku (ankle) through injury. Jules-Anthony Vilsaint (knee) is listed as questionable.

What time is kickoff?

The Fire-Montréal game is set for the early time slot, and will kick off shortly after 1 p.m. local time (2 p.m. Eastern Time) as opposed to the standard 7:30 local time kickoff.

How to watch the game

The match will be available on Apple TV via the MLS Season Pass, with Callum Williams and Calen Carr on the call in English. It will also be available over the radio on WLS and WRTO 1200 AM.
