How to watch Columbus Crew vs. Chicago Fire; Apple TV updates
The Chicago Fire are on the road again, traveling to Ohio to take on defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew. For the Fire, still looking to find their first win of 2024 after dropping points in both of their opening two games, it represents an opportunity to finally get in the W column.
Columbus are among the most dominant and attractive teams in MLS, brushing aside all competition en route to their third MLS title last season under head coach Wilfried Nancy. Led by MLS Cup MVP Cucho Hernández and one-time Golden Boot winner Diego Rossi, the Crew provide a terrifying threat on all fronts, and tonight's game will be among the most difficult tests the Fire will face all season.
Who will play for the Fire?
The newly Designated Player signing Hugo Cuypers is still looking for his first goal in MLS, and he'll likely start up front. Kellyn Acosta, who made his first Fire start last weekend in the home opener, will also likely be in the eleven, as well as DP #10 Xherdan Shaqiri, who scored the Fire's lone goal against the Crew last season. Homegrown stars Brian Gutiérrez and Chris Brady will likely start too after strong starts to the season.
Two players have been ruled out with injuries, with one being Andrew Gutman (right upper leg), who was hurt two minutes into the season. Victor Bezerra (right upper leg) is also ruled out. DP Gastón Giménez (lower leg) is officially questionable but trained fully on Friday.
Who will play for the Crew?
Apart from star DPs Cucho and Rossi, the Crew boast several other top players. Their third DP, Darlington Nagbe, is among the MLS greats in the central midfield position, and he will be partnered by U.S. international Aidan Morris at the heart of the 3-4-3. One-time USMNT players Patrick Schulte and Sean Zawadski, who both made their debuts in a friendly in January, are also on the roster.
Romanian international Alex Mățan (thigh) is the lone player who missed out through injury.
How to watch the game
As always, the game will be streamed on Apple TV, but this week, it will be in front of the MLS Season Pass paywall. Neil Sika will be the main English-language commentator, and Lloyd Sam will be the analyst.
