Missael Rodríguez loaned to Omaha
Chicago Fire homegrown striker Missael Rodríguez is going on loan to USL League One's Union Omaha, the club confirmed today. The move will be a development-focused loan for Rodríguez, who now finds himself fourth on the center forward depth chart behind Hugo Cuypers, Georgios Koutsias, and Tom Barlow.
Rodríguez, who turned 21 last month, has made three first team appearances for the Fire since signing his homegrown contract ahead of the 2022 season. He debuted in the U.S. Open Cup shootout loss to Omaha in 2022, again appeared off the bench in the Open Cup win over Chicago House, and made his MLS debut last season in the 3-0 win over CF Montréal. He has scored nine goals in 40 appearances for Chicago Fire II in MLS Next Pro.

Rodríguez's loan to USL means he will be unable to participate in the Open Cup with Fire II but will instead be eligible for Omaha's roster. In addition to regular league play, the Owls will be looking to make a deep run in the knockout competition much as they did in 2022. Omaha will play their first round match next Thursday, March 21st, against Western Mass Pioneers, and Rodríguez will presumably be available for selection.
The forward will join Justin Reynolds, who just joined FC Lugano, as a member of the Fire's loan contingent. Draft pick Laurence Wootton, who is yet to sign with the Fire officially, is expected to also go on loan to USL once his deal is finalized.
