With his performance tonight, the Swiss international icon earned himself Man of the Match in back-to-back matches. Shaq registered another assist tonight as he played a beautifully weighted lobbed through ball to Georgios Koutsias, who was able to slot home the Fire’s opener.
On the Fire’s second goal, Shaq was involved again as he started the move with a beautiful cross-field ball to pick out Koutsias once again. Koutsias quickly found an overlapping Miguel Navarro, whose cross was ultimately bundled into the back of the net in what would go down as an own goal.
Shaq continued to pull the strings for the Fire and really stepped up in the absence of attacking players such as Brian Gutiérrez and Kei Kamara, who both came in off of the bench due to rotation. Shaq was again the Fire’s most prolific creator and facilitator on the ball as he created three chances in addition to completing over 85% of his 49 attempted passes.
Shaq again showed more defensive intensity tonight and won 10 duels. His effort from a defensive standpoint has certainly improved under Frank Klopas as he again worked hard defensively for the duration of the 90.
Despite what Fire fans can dub a disappointing result after conceding (another) 2-0 lead, Shaq is continuing to put in top performances and is really coming to life under Frank Klopas.
