The young playmaker took the spotlight in the absence of Xherdan Shaqiri, who was rested after playing heavy minutes for Switzerland during the international break.  The young U.S. youth international started as the Fire’s number ten as they reverted back to their traditional 4-2-3-1 system.

It took Guti just seven minutes to make an impact on the match. The youngster was able to find Fabian Herbers with a beautiful cut-back pass to give the Fire a 1-0 lead. Guti continued to prove his worth throughout the match as he consistently showed positive play through his dribbling and forward passing. The youngster also showed great creativity and eventually picked up the Fire’s second assist with a great in-swinging cross that eventually connected with Kei Kamara’s head for what was the game-winning goal.

If the Fire want to have any chance of making the playoffs this season, continued strong performances from Guti will be crucial to the Fire and their ability to find the back of the net.
